Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) is a treatment for individuals with dizziness (vertigo) as the result of dysfunction of the vestibular system. The vestibular system is the portion of the inner ear responsible for detecting head movement and helping to maintain balance. When there is a problem within the vestibular system the result is the feeling of “dizziness” or “rocking & swaying”. VRT has been demonstrated to be a highly effective treatment for most individuals with inner ear disorders and can be significantly more effective in resolving symptoms of dizziness that generic exercises or medications. VRT is a customized, exercise-based program for reducing or eliminating the sensations of dizziness or imbalance as well as improving balance and reducing risk for falls.
