Amy Downing

(PT, Vestibular Specialist, Owner)

Amy has over 34 years of experience as a physical therapist and earned her bachelor’s and physical therapy degrees from St. Louis University. She graduated in 1990 and gained unique and specialized experiences from settings where she worked, including The Rehab Institute of Chicago, Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO, and Sister Kenny Institute in Minneapolis. Amy is originally from Brookfield, WI.  She moved to Missoula, Montana, in 1999 and worked in outpatient settings throughout Missoula as she raised her four children.

Amy bought Element Physical Therapy in February 2011 and has enjoyed putting her own expertise and personal flare into the clinic. She has a keen interest in balance rehab, concussions, and working with patients with dizziness and vertigo as she herself has bilateral Meniere’s disease, vestibular migraines, and a left perilymphatic fistula (after performing a 25-foot free dive off the coast of Kona, HI with her kids.)  Amy is Emory University certified in vestibular rehabilitation, the highest level of certification in our field for dizziness, balance, and concussion treatment. She has also obtained certifications in Advanced Vestibular Rehab and Cervicogenic Dizziness. Amy works with MediTouch, International, and MediTouch USA to train top clinics across the United States on the Balancetutor, a four-dimensional perturbation treadmill system to assist patients in developing/managing a stepping response.  These patients may have problems with falls, loss of confidence when walking due to unsteadiness, Parkinson’s Disease, or other neurologic and orthopedic disorders. When Amy is not in the clinic, you can find her on the golf course, volunteering, skiing, snowshoeing, or traveling.
